How to protect your new high-tech gear

If you are like me, you probably received a few high tech gadgets for Christmas this year. If so you might find the USA Today story Protect your new high-tech gear interesting.
Here is a summary with a few tips of my own…
1. Make sure your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance covers your high tech gear. Keep receipts, take pictures, write down serial numbers (or take pictures of them), and keep a copy where theft and fire will not have an impact.
2. Ensure your contact information is in or on the device in the event it is lost and found by an honest person.
3. Secure your laptop with passwords, data encryption, and tracking software.
